It is not the purpose of the scheme for residents to arrest people,
or to put themselves in a potentially dangerous position.
To deter crime
The Yscir community is on the look-out for suspicious activity. This will be reported and information shared.
Many crimes are opportunistic. Do not leave keys in quad bikes, sheds unlocked etc.
Alert the Police to suspicious activity
a) If you see something suspicious, phone the Police on 101. Only use 999 if it is an emergency and an immediate response is required. (Dial 999 if you witness an actual burglary.)
b) Try and get a description of the people involved and the colour, make and numberplate of any vehicle but do not put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.
c) Alert a local co-ordinator (see list below) or the clerk so that the information can be put on the website and the messaging system activated ( see below.).
Warn residents of suspicious activity
a) When a crime or something suspicious has occurred a news item will be posted on the website and Facebook page. The Clerk or other website administrator should be contacted, either directly or through a local co-ordinator.
b) If you are a member of Facebook, post a warning message on our Facebook page- yscircommunity.
c) The Clerk or other website administrator will trigger a text to individual phones of all the people who have indicated they wish to receive an alert.
If you would like to be part of the alert warning scheme, text yscir to 07786200690 on the telephone on which you wish to receive alerts. You will receive an acknowledgement text. Alternatively please contact the council with the telephone number (mobile or a landline number) you wish the alert to be sent to. (To opt out text yscirstop to 07786200690)
